Business: Aibel and Hitachi Energy have signed separate framework agreements
with the German renewables company RWE for more HVDC systems, for faster
development and integration of offshore wind in the power system.

The agreements enable the development of several HVDC systems for the transmission of electricity from offshore wind farms to land.

RWE has contracted Aibel and Hitachi Energy in a shared contract model, with Aibel responsible for designing and building the platforms, and Hitachi Energy for the delivery of VSC systems.

The agreement provides predictability and strengthens Aibel’s position as a leading supplier to the offshore wind market.

RWE, which is dedicated to the spread of offshore wind energy, sees the agreements as crucial to achieving the climate goals.

The framework agreement can be extended to include several projects globally, and follows a strategic partnership between Aibel and Hitachi Energy since 2016.
