Alpine skiing | Legend Hirscher is making a comeback this winter – going skiing under the Dutch flag

Share

Hirscher himself is happy that he can go skiing again. “I retired five years ago, and I am now 35 years old. My comeback must therefore also be seen in that light: I especially want to have the opportunity to participate in competitions again, just because I enjoy it. “

“I have an excellent relationship with the ÖSV and am grateful to them for everything we have achieved. This new project is best realized as a Dutch person.”

Hirscher achieved his greatest success in 2018 by winning two gold medals at the Olympic Games in Pyongyang, South Korea. He was the best in both the combination and the giant slalom. Hirscher also became world champion five times.

Experience

According to Wopke de Vegt, technical director of the Dutch Ski Association (NSkiV), Hirscher’s comeback under the Dutch flag is a huge asset. “We are delighted with Marcel’s choice and hope that this will be of great value for not only skiing, but all snow sports covered by the NSkiV.

“In that sense it is also a great match: Marcel is someone who has always created his own team around him and has completely drawn his own plan. So we will not only benefit from his sporting contribution, but also from the wealth of knowledge and experience that he will share with us.”

In the coming months, Hirscher will focus on preparations for the coming season.
