Sport: With his second tournament victory of the season, the Russian climbs past Casper Ruud in the ATP rankings and takes 6th place.
Rublev had lost four matches in a row when he arrived in Madrid, but he impressed on his way to the title. He dropped just one set in his matches against Facundo Bagnis, Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, Tallon Griekspoor, Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz.
Auger-Aliassime knocked out Casper Ruud in the round of 16. The Canadian then got a walkover against Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals, while he needed to play just six games before Jiri Lehecka gave up the semi-final with a sore back.
A rested Auger-Aliassime took the first set in the final, but Rublev turned the match and won the next two. After two hours and 48 minutes, he could celebrate his victory.
