Sport: The newly composed duo clocked 6:51.81 and won the second heat with a margin of over one second in Romania.

The result means that Helseth and Kavlie don’t have to worry about rowing and can look forward to Sunday’s A-final in Szeged, Hungary.

Recently, Helseth was on the podium with Jenny Rørvik in the World Cup, but in the EC Rørvik was replaced by Kavlie. The trio is fighting for two places in the boat in the Olympics.

In the men’s class, Jonas Juel and Erik Solbakken took 2nd place with 6.25.21 in the third heat. It was good enough to go straight to Saturday’s semi-finals.

Lars Benske and Ask Tjøm have to gather after being second best in the last of two heats in the lightweight double sculls. They finished in 6.23.57. Only heat winners made it directly to the final.

In single sculls, Martin Helseth also needs to row more to reach the semi-finals. He finished third in his heat (7.04.58).

Maia Lund rows Norway’s single sculls in Sunday’s lightweight final. On Thursday, she finished fifth in a field of six women in a test race.

The EC in Hungary marks the start of the season for Birgit Skarstein. The para-rower is fighting for the gold on Saturday, but on Thursday she tested her form in an initial competition. There she was third fastest with a time of 10:00.39.

Moran Samuel from Israel was the best in 9.54.35.
