Culture and entertainment: – Doctors Without Borders is a very worthy winner of the Peer Gynt of the Year. Employees put their own safety and their own lives at risk to provide health care to those who need it most. Médecins Sans Frontières stands up for people regardless of religion, political position or where you come from, says leader of the Nomination Committee for Peer Gynt of the Year, Rune Støstad, in a press release.

It was an overwhelming majority of the representatives of the Storting who voted for Doctors Without Borders for this year’s award. They will receive the award from Storting representative Grunde Almeland (V) during the Peer Gynt Culture Festival at Vinstra on Saturday 3 August.

– The award is a great recognition of our medical work for more than 50 years to save lives and alleviate distress all over the world. The guiding principles and values we work from are more important to stand up for now than ever before. We see the awarding of the Peer Gynt of the Year from the Storting representatives as a clear indication of the need to protect precisely these values, says Rostrup.

The honorary award Peer Gynt of the Year goes to a person or an institution that has distinguished itself in a positive way on a socially useful level, and that has made Norway’s name known abroad, the message goes on to say.

General practitioner and founder of Doctors Without Borders in Norway, Morten Rostrup is honored by the award.
