Rock singer insults city; now 2 radio stations there won’t play his band’s music

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of Green Day, is a native of Oakland, Calif., and a big fan of the Athletics.

So he’s not happy about the A’s moving to Las Vegas, leading to him offering a less-than-gracious observation about the team’s new home.

““I hate Las Vegas. It’s the worst s—hole in America,” Armstrong said while performing with Green Day in San Francisco, People reports. He made the comments while criticizing the owners of the A’s for moving the team.

Two radio stations were not pleased with Armstrong’s comments and now have pulled Green Day’s music from their playlists. KOMP FM/92.3 announced their intentions in a post on Instagram.

“KOMP 92.3 has pulled any and all Green Day from our playlist,” the post says. “It’s not us, Billie … it’s you.”

X FM/107.5 announced on its website that it also will not play Green Day because of Armstrong’s comments.

“Well, Sin City heard him loud and clear — and X107.5 is not having it,” the statement says. “In response to Armstrong’s inflammatory comments, the station is banning all Green Day music, effective immediately.”

Entertainment Weekly reports Green Day has not performed in Las Vegas since 2004. Armstrong has not responded to the bans, reports say.
