Medicine and health: They have figures that stretch back to 2007, and the latest basis for figures, covering the year 2021, is now ready.
Treatments with donor sperm carried out in 2021 have produced 634 children, the directorate states in a press release. At the same time, their figures show that treatments with assisted fertilization carried out in 2021 gave birth to 3,279 children.
– The number of children born after treatment with assisted fertilization carried out in 2021 is the highest number we have recorded, writes the directorate.
644 children were born after treatment with donor sperm or donor eggs.
– We believe the increase is partly due to the fact that single women could have assisted fertilization from 1 July 2020, as well as the fact that it was not possible to travel outside Norway for treatment in parts of the corona pandemic, says Anne Fours in the department for pharmaceuticals and biomedicine in the Directorate of Health.
