Sport: According to the Trønder club, Johannessen is expected to be out for six to eight months.

The 29-year-old has fought his way back to the field after struggling with his Achilles tendon since November. He participated for Norway in the EC in January.

Kolstad had hoped to get him in action in the run-up to the playoffs.

The injury occurred when Johannessen drove a lightning-fast feint in Monday’s training.

– What will be important for me now is to look ahead to what awaits me. I will continue to play handball for many years, and then I will continue to play at the highest level. Based on that, the motivation is high to fight back, even if the road there will be long, demanding and challenging, he says in a statement.

Johannessen will undergo an operation on Thursday. He must then recover his body and head before training begins.

– I will do my utmost to get back to good old Gøran style. At the same time, it’s a blow in the face, and mentally I also have a demanding job ahead of me. It is never easy to be outside a group, but the team is my strongest supporter, along with friends and family, he says.

For the national team, Johannessen has 260 goals in 109 games. He made his debut for Norway in 2015.
