Curiosities and celebrities: After the next season, lead actress Brenda Blethyn has solved her last case as the sarcastic, but also warm-hearted, detective Vera Stanhope.
The fourteenth and final season will be recorded in the summer. Then there will be two 120-minute long episodes.
– Working with “Vera” has been a pleasure from start to finish. Saying “cheerio” gets sad. But I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved in the last 14 years, says 78-year-old Blethyn BBC.
She says she is “eternally grateful” to Ann Cleeves, the author who created the Vera character in her crime novels, and Elaine Collins, who gave her the role.
Brenda Blethyn was nominated for an Oscar for the 1996 film “Secrets & Lies”, which also won a Bafta Award and a Golden Globe. She was again nominated for an Oscar for “Little Voice” in 1999.
