War and conflicts: “Such launches are a breach of several resolutions in the UN Security Council and threaten regional and international security. Norway urges the North Korean authorities to refrain from further tests, comply with their international obligations and resume political dialogue,” says a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to North Korean state media, the launch was part of an exercise for nuclear retaliation. North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un is said to have been present and guided the exercise.

“The exercise was the first of its kind and was a display of various nuclear capabilities and a protest against the military exercises conducted by the United States and South Korea,” North Korea’s state news agency KCNA reported.
