Policy: – We advocate the immediate release of all hostages who have been held by Hamas for over 200 days, the statement says.

Among the countries that have signed are Denmark, France, Germany and Great Britain. Norway has not joined the petition.

The countries write that with the draft agreement now on the table, there will be a ceasefire in Gaza if the hostages are released. It will also lead to a lot of emergency aid being allowed to enter the Palestinian enclave, according to the appeal.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri says that international pressure will not cause the group to budge. He believes the US should rather work to get Israel to stop the war in Gaza.
