Last year there were fourteen crosses on the calendar in a period of more than 3.5 months. The season started on October 9 in Waterloo, USA, followed a week later by Fayetteville (also in the United States). These two long-distance trips have now been removed from the program.
This also applies to the snow cross in Val di Sole. It will be replaced by Oristano in Sardinia. The cyclo-cross riders will visit France in Besançon and no longer in Troyes and Flamanville.
Two full weekends
It is also striking that there are two weekends with two World Cup crosses: Hulst and Zonhoven on December 21 and 22 and Maasmechelen and Hoogerheide on January 25 and 26. The latter is the final part of the World Cup season.
Dublin, Oristano, Hulst and Besançon have been given protected status. No other crosses may be organized on this day or the day before. This should promote the internationalization of cyclo-cross.
