Economy and business: The talks Xi will hold with French leaders are likely to be marked by disagreement about the war in Ukraine and economic conflicts. The talks will also be about the Middle East and climate, according to messages from the French president’s office.

The meetings with President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be held on Monday. After that, he will continue to Serbia and Hungary, where Xi will meet some of Europe’s most pro-China leaders.

In advance, Macron has said that everything must be done to get China involved in the major global issues, so that the country can contribute to world stability and international order.

Serbia has close cooperation with China and is also involved in the major Chinese infrastructure project – the Belt and Road Initiative – which is intended to become a kind of modern silk road between Asia and Europe.

The government of Viktor Orban in Hungary is also considered China-friendly, and like Serbia, the country is part of the Belt and Road Initiative.
