Sport: The Spanish tennis ace Alcaraz has missed tournaments in the last few months due to injury problems in an arm. Now he has recovered and is aiming to win his third straight title in the Masters tournament in Madrid.
There he got off to a good start with a victory over Shevchenko with the set numbers 6-2, 6-1. Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild awaits in the third round, who knocked out Italian Lorenzo Musetti. Alcaraz is the second seed in Madrid, while the Wild are unseeded.
Casper Ruud plays his first match for the tournament against Miomir Kecmanovic on Saturday. The Norwegian won the Barcelona Open last week.
In a potential quarter-final, one of the year’s winningest players, Jannik Sinner, could become Ruud’s opponent. Italian Sinner is the first seed in Madrid after world number one Novak Djokovic does not compete.
