Sport: The Sheffield team has delivered a weak season and stands with only three wins and 16 points after 35 games. With only nine points left to play for, the road to Nottingham Forest is too long to reach safety.
On Saturday they visited Newcastle who won with the help of scores from Alexander Isak (two), Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimarães. In addition, Ben Osborn was unlucky and scored an own goal.
Sheffield took the lead through Anel Ahmedhodzic, but could not withstand the hosts’ pressure. The late goals ensure that Sheffield United have conceded 97 goals this season.
Only Swindon have conceded more goals in a Premier League season with their 100 in 1993/94, according to the statistics service Opta. With three games to go, Swindon’s record could soon be broken.
On Friday, it became clear that Leicester will be promoted to the Premier League.
