Policy: In the coming months, the federation will be “supervised” by an independent commission under the Spanish Sports Council (CSD).

– The government adopted this decision to correct the serious situation RFEF is in, so that the union can renew itself under stable conditions, says a message from CSD.

The Sports Council has close ties to Spain’s Ministry of Sports.

It has stormed around the country’s football association since the much-publicised kiss on the podium after last year’s women’s World Cup final. Then newly minted world champion Jenni Hermoso was kissed on the mouth by Spain’s then football president Luis Rubiales.

Rubiales later resigned from office because of the commotion that followed, but there was no peace in the RFEF.

In March, Rubiales and several other people were arrested as part of the investigation into the association’s agreement to move the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia. The suspicion is about possible money laundering and corruption.
