Sport: The Norwegian crossed the finish line 15.44 minutes behind Simon Carr (EF Education), who went solo in the last miles and won Thursday’s effort.

Thursday’s 141.3 kilometer long stage went over two first categorized peaks from Laives to Borgo Valsugana in Italy.

The Ineos rider Foss impressed during the race and won Monday’s opening stage. Before Thursday’s stage, he was in 2nd place in the summary, just 31 seconds behind leader Juan Pedro López (Lidl-Trek).

After Thursday’s mountain stage, the distance has increased so much that the Norwegian is completely out of the close fight.

– I am mainly here to get a week of intensity and training. Actually, we had no big ambitions. But we do our best every day, so it will be as it will be, Foss told NTB after Monday’s victory.

On Friday, the stage is set for a new tough stage. The 118.6-kilometer ordeal starts and stops in Levico Terme, and it also goes over two first-categorized peaks.

The next task for Foss is the season’s first three-week race, the Giro d’Italia. The start is in Venaria Reale on May 4. There, he is intended for an assistant rider role for captains Thymen Arensman and Geraint Thomas. At the same time, he gets to drive for his own chances on two tempo stages.
