The Dutch national team will most likely play a practice match against European Championship organizer Germany in March. National coach Ronald Koeman revealed this news on Monday afternoon at the Dutch press conference. It will be an away game.
“I think the match against Germany is fixed if we don’t draw them at the European Championship,” Koeman said at the press conference before the home match against Gibraltar. It is not known where in Germany the match will be played. The Dutch also practiced against their eastern neighbors last year and drew 1-1 in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The Dutch national team will meet once more for two practice matches before the European Championships in Germany, in March next year. In addition to probably an away match against Germany, the Dutch team will also play a home match, Koeman said. The opponent is not yet known.
The draw for the final tournament in Germany will take place in Hamburg on December 2. Germany, as the organizing country, will then be in pot 1 and the Netherlands will most likely be in pot 3, so the countries can meet each other.
Koeman is not dissatisfied with a place in pot 3. “When I see which other countries are in pot 3, I think it is not unfavorable to belong to that pot yourself,” said Koeman.
The Netherlands qualified for the European Championship on Saturday thanks to a 1-0 victory over Ireland. Gibraltar is the opponent in the last group match on Tuesday. The match will be played in Faro, Portugal.
