Victorian Labor is leading in the race to retain former Premier Daniel Andrews’ seat in Mulgrave however, Labor appears to be suffering a swing away from its primary vote as early counting comes in.
With 43.43 per cent of the vote counted, Labor’s Eden Foster is sitting on a primary of 38.21 per cent.
Liberal candidate Courtney Mann is on 24.25 per cent, and independent Ian Cook on 18.18 per cent.
Victorian Minister for Consumer Affairs Gabrielle Williams said the swing way from Labor is what the party expected.
“So far the swing away from Labor is what we would expect, we know by-elections are very tough, but particularly where you’ve had someone with such a strong personal vote a very popular outgoing member in Daniel Andrews,” she told Sky News Australia.
“So that was always going to be the case, and it’s in line with our expectations,” she said.
