At Noordeinde Palace in The Hague, the first people are ready early Tuesday morning to catch a glimpse of King Willem-Alexander later on this Budget Day.
The fans wear orange clothing. Some attendees went all out, such as large hats and buttons with photos of the princesses.
Traditionally, the first person present was Oscar Meijer from Amersfoort. The Oranjefan is present on Prinsjesdag for the fortieth time. This time he arrived at 5:45 am.
“It is not necessary,” Meijer says NOS. “But I don’t have the peace to come later. When I come here, I always have the feeling: if only my place is not gone.”
Thousands of interested parties every year
The king, Queen Máxima and the princesses Amalia and Alexia and other family members will soon drive from Noordeinde Palace to the Royal Theater. Willem-Alexander will deliver the speech from the throne there.
They then return the same way to wave to the audience on the balcony of Noordeinde Palace.
The driving tour and the balcony scene attract thousands of interested parties every Budget Day.
